Exploring the link between social axioms and perceived academic control/

By: David, Adonis P.
Description: 3 tables; refs.ISSN: 0115-3153.Other title: Philippine Journal of Psychology.Subject(s): ACADEMIC CONTROL | PERSONAL CONTROL | RELIGIOSITY | REWARD FOR APPLICATION | SOCIAL AXIOMSDDC classification: 050/D28 Summary: This study explored the possible link between five dimensions of social axioms (social cynicism, social complexity, religiosity, reward for application, and fate control) and perceived academic control. Tentative hypotheses were made on the basis of the argument that social axioms that define more personal control over life outcomes will positively predict perceived academic control. Using data from 183 Filipino university students who were asked to respond to questionnaires measuring their social beliefs and perception of control over academic outcomes, a multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine if social axioms are predictors of perceived academic control. Results indicated that only reward for application and religiosity significantly and positively predicted perceived academic control.
