Homicide is a legal term for any killing of a human being by another human being. Homicide itself is not necessarily a crime-for instance, a justifiable killing of a suspect by the police or a killing in self-defense. Murder and manslaughter fall under the category of unlawful homicides. Criminal law, the body of law that defines criminal offenses, regulates the apprehension, charging, and trial of suspected persons, and fixes penalties and modes of treatment applicable to convicted offenders. Murder is a homicide crime defined as the intentional killing of one human being by another with malice aforethought. This book explores the actual practice of criminal law and forms of murder in contemporary societies. It aims to fill these gaps in our understanding of criminal law in practice.
