520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Bohol was recognized as the Philippines' first UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGP), a designation that lasts four (4) years and requires revalidation based on UNESCO standards. Local participation is vital for renewing the Geopark designation. As the Geopark concept is still new and lacks research on community involvement in Bohol, this study aims to assess local communities' level of awareness to determine their knowledge and understanding of their roles—an essential step toward achieving Bohol Geopark's goals.

The data was collected using structured questionnaires distributed to 120 respondents in the chosen municipalities of Baclayon, Bilar, Carmen and Corella. Statistical analysis was conducted using frequency counts, t-tests, factor means, and ANOVA. Results indicated an overall level of awareness among the local residents and business in terms of knowledge, while a plurality of respondents displayed low behavioral awareness. The data also revealed limited understanding of the specific aspects of knowledge, with basic concepts receiving the lowest factor mean, followed by educational significance. With respect to behavior, both groups had a low level of awareness in all key strategies—geotourism, geoconservation, and geo-education. These findings highlight a general lack of understanding among residents and businesses of their roles and responsibilities in the Geopark. Targeted initiatives should be undertaken to focus more on these aspects and key strategies, strengthen awareness, and enhance knowledge in these critical areas.

The researchers recommend that the government utilize effective communication platforms, establish partnerships with various institutions and implement educational programs that inform local communities about the basic concepts, significance, and their roles in supporting the objectives of Bohol Island Geopark.
