520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
ABSTRACT

This study aims to identify the debt management practices of government employees in Tagbilaran City. As the employees’ productivity and health are affected when facing financial difficulties (Miller, 2016), the study aims to determine how government employees manage and utilize the debt acquired to avoid overborrowing. The study’s data was obtained from questionnaires distributed to 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling.

The study’s result indicated that government employees in Tagbilaran City exhibit favorable behaviors prior to obtaining debt and when they commence planning for repayment. The respondents take into account various factors, such as interest rates offered by the lenders, when deciding where to acquire debt. Additionally, there were good monitoring of the debts acquired. A majority of the respondents prioritize paying off debts in order of highest to lowest interest rates. Furthermore, the respondents show a preference for modern payment methods, which have an impact on their payment practices.

It is recommended to prioritize the payments of debts based on their interest rates, starting with the highest, known as the debt avalanche method. This approach enables government employees to save money, allocate funds towards other financial goals, and minimize the overall interest paid.
