Summary, etc. |
Women and gender studies is a field of academics which makes use of feminist and interdisciplinary methods to study the lives of women and their experiences. It is a multidisciplinary academic domain of literature, history, economics, political science, anthropology, media studies, etc., which is concerned with the analysis of gender identity and gendered representation. Gender studies include women's studies, men's studies and queer studies. It investigates the social and cultural constructs of gender, relationships between power and gender, and systems of privilege and oppression. Their intersection with various other identities and social locations such as race, sexual orientation, socio-economic class, and disability is also a key area of focus. Popular concepts that define the field of women studies include the standpoint theory, feminist theory, multiculturalism and intersectionality. |
