| Summary, etc. | A constant increase in the number and proportion of the elderly, as well as a corresponding drop in the proportion of younger age groups, indicates population ageing. The increasing longevity and quality of life of older persons is a challenge to mental health experts who are attempting to help the growing older population. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between positive mental health and quality of life (Qol) of older adults in Loay, Bohol. Conducted from September to October 2019, this research utilized 278 randomly selected older persons as participants who were classified according to age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, socio-economic status, type of family structure, and health status. The descriptive statistics employed were the frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation; while the inferential statistics utilized were the t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and simple linear regression analysis, all set at .05 alpha level of significance. The overall mental health status was generally described as good/flourishing, with a moderate emotional well-being and a good psychological and social-well-being. They expressed that they are fairly satisfied with their quality of life. On the other hand, significant differences were noted in mental health and Qol when the older persons were grouped according to their demographic profile. There was a significant relationship between the three components of mental health and the four domains of the Qol. The results showed that mental health is positively associated with better quality of life scores in the older persons living in Loay, Bohol.<br/><br/> |
