Summary, etc.
ABSTRACT

Over the years, the Philippines’ public health sector continuously needs healthcare workers to cater the needs of the increasing population. These barangay health workers, with competence, commitment, right knowledge and relevant skills can provide their constituents with quality healthcare services. This study determines the level of competence of the barangay health workers as perceived by their self-rating and their midwives’ rating respectively. Descriptive correlational method was used with questionnaires as an instrument of gathering data. Convenient sampling was used to determine the respondents. For the data gathering procedure, the researcher conducted the data gathering procedure by distributing the questionnaires to the participants during their monthly BHW meeting per municipality. To determine the demographic profile of the respondents, percentage was used and to get the overall picture of the barangay health workers’ level of competence based on their self-rating and by their respective midwives, the computation of the weighted mean was applied. Results showed that these barangay health workers are remarkably proficient as perceived by their self-rating as with those with their midwives and that there is no significant difference with their level of competence between the two groups of respondents. Constant training and re-training, performance evaluation and seminars is highly competent in the delivery of health care services to the people in the community.
