Since 2000, Japan has witnessed a continual shortening of hospital stays for children, a phenomena that also has been observed in other countries. In particular, an increasing number of minor operations are performed on an outpatient basis. As these trends continue, we thought it would be effective to produce a picture book that parents and children could use at home, from the time the decision is made to operate until the day of surgery, to help them prepare for the experience.
