Abstract
The outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on January 30, 2020 and continuously spread across the world. To date, there has been very limited published data on people’s knowledge, attitudes, and practices on COVID-19, specifically in the Philippines and most particularly in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. This study is done to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practices in preventing and controlling COVID-19 to contribute to the existing understanding of the status of City residents’ knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) on COVID-19 prevention and control.
This study is quantitative approach wherein the researcher surveyed 391 consenting residents of the three barangays of Tagbilaran City through the use of online questionnaires via Google Forms. The participants were selected using a combination of purposive, stratified proportional and quota sampling method.
The findings of the study had shown that the respondents had an acceptable level of knowledge and generally has a positive outlook on overcoming the pandemic, and reasonably good practices regarding the COVID-19 prevention and control. Despite the fact that they had high, positive, and good KAP results in this study, they still need health education programs and psychological support on COVID-19 prevention and control., particularly the ages of 40-49 and 50-59 years old, and for those who obtained only the elementary level of education.
This study concluded that knowledge is an essential predictor of attitudes and practices, contributing to advancing intervention strategies to promote and sustain the public in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
