520 | _aAbstract: The purpose of the study is to determine the perceived effectiveness of genre adaptation in teaching literature in the college of education of Holy Name University, academic year 2013-2014. This study employed a combination of qualitative and quantitative research method utilizing the researcher-made questionnaire as a tool in gathering valuable data. This were treated statistically and tabulated using frequency counts and percentage computation of the different descriptive measures such as percentage, mean, standard deviation, and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results of the survey showed that in the perceived effectiveness of genre adaptation, there is no significant difference in the respondent's perception towards genre adaptation if grouped according to gender and academic performance. In terms of gender, both male and female students viewed genre adaptation effective in teaching literature. In terms of academic performance, the effectiveness of genre adaptation in their perception was still the same with regards to their level of academic performance. In terms of perceived effectiveness of genre adaptation in teaching literature, majority of the respondents agreed that they adapt a certain text into another form of genre. The motivation of the respondents alone which majority had affirmed opened a lot possibilities when it comes to learning. It was recommended that teachers should use various techniques and strategies that are applicable to learners to cater their diverse abilities. Since majority of the respondents had affirmed that genre adaptation is an effective tool in catering their varied intelligences, teachers are encouraged to use this technique so that learning will take place and the uniqueness of every students will be recognized. Meantime, further study may be conducted on the technique of presentation of different genres of literature to draw different results for comparison. | ||
