Depression is the widespread disease across the world and major factor in problems of mental health as stated in the literature. This can be prevented if symptoms are addressed early. Treatment is effective and available but due to an unnecessary shame surrounding these issues, depression is not discussed and many students suffer in silence. The objective of the study is to find out whether these college students experienced depressive symptoms and to know the causes associated with these symptoms, which will lay the foundation in understanding the issues of students at risk for major depression. The sex and college difference among students are also included. The questionnaires used for the respondents are the University Students Depression Inventory (USDI) tool and a self-made questionnaire, and a survey was conducted on 205 respondents which were acquired through stratified random sampling selection. Result reveals that there are more female respondents (55.1%) than male (44.9%) and most of the respondents come from the College of Health Sciences. The respondents have occasionally experienced on thinking that most people are better than they in terms of cognitive-emotional, have trouble completing their study tasks in terms of academic motivation, and their mood affect their ability to carry out assigned tasks in terms of lethargy. Further, the respondents disagreed that the depressive symptoms they have experienced are caused by their parents, friends, and teachers. Such experience of depressive symptoms does not depend on the student's sex and the college they belong. The researcher concluded that college students have their share of occasional experiences of depressive symptoms. Thus, their experience of depressive symptoms does not depend on their sex and choice of college in the university. Though, students who belong to College of Arts and Sciences have high occasional experienced of depressive symptoms than that of another college yet, not significant, | ||
