TI - Antibacterial activities of cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) and cymbopogon nardus (citronella) crude and leaf extract against staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli/ U1 - 579.3 An62 ©2024 PY - 2024///] CY - [Tagbilaran City, Bohol]: PB - [Holy Name University] N1 - CHS; Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology N2 - An antibiotic resistance rises, this study examined the phytochemical content and antibacterial effects of Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) and Cymbopogon nardus (citronella) leaf and steam extracts at 100%, 90%, 60% and 30% concentrations against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Key compounds identified included tannins, saponins, flavonoids and phenols. Antibacterial activity was assessed via broth microdilution to determine minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC), with vancomycin and cefoxitin as controls. Two-way ANOVA analysis showed that all extracts inhibited bacterial growth, especially at higher concentrations (p > 0.05). The results highlight the potential of lemongrass and citronella as nature antibacterial agents, with concentration- dependent activity. Future research should focus on standardizing extract preparation and testing against a broader range of antibiotic-resistant strains ER -
