The language of DOTA 2: a look into its word formation/

This study was conducted to determine gamer's language, specifically to identify word formation processes in these DOTA 2. This study sought to find out the new words created by the gamers themselves. It also aimed to determine each word's manifestation of speech acts, and how these words mean in different context. This study also examined how these words formed with the use of the different word formation processes, and identify the most dominant and the least word formation processes used by these words.
This study was descriptive in nature. Careful observation and proper documentation were conducted to gather the data needed. The researchers decided to use purposive sampling to clarify and choose properly the correct qualification and criteria of the respondents needed of this study. Five male gamers were chosen as part of this study.
Based on the results, it shows the rareness of the words identified by the researchers. It is uncommon through how the gamers shortened the words in order to create a new one. Gamers decided to shorten the words to communicate efficiently in a game. Because of the evolvement of language, especially in the internet world, various languages were created. New words like warded, gank and mis manifest locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts. Word formation processes evident in the found and identified new words include b, gg, ggwp, wp, and etc. The researchers conclude that the very main reason gamers create this kind of words in order to obtain faster communication. This study helps the many to follow the trend of language, not only used in the internet or online word, but also in the context of ever day communication.
