Fluid mechanics is a continuously exciting and challenging field of knowledge with an unlimited range of daily life applications. To name a few, sectors of agriculture, industry, power, construction, environment, weather forecast, transport, and biomedical systems are all involving fluid particles as key elements to accomplish the tasks planned for. Fluid mechanics helps us understand the behavior of fluid under various forces and at different atmospheric conditions, and to select the proper fluid for various applications. This field is studied in detail within Civil Engineering and also to great extent in Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Despite being a mature subject, where the basic approximations and mathematical formulations are well established and comprehensively covered in the literature, plenty of problems in fluid mechanics not only need knowledge of the principles but also require physical intuition based on experience. This edition is completely revised and new topics are added in this edition. This book is focused on understanding basic laws, principles and phenomena in the area of fluid mechanics organized into eight chapters. The content coverage includes pressure, hydrostatics, and buoyancy; open systems and control volume analysis; mass conservation and momentum conservation for moving fluids; viscous fluid flows, flow through pipes; dimensional analysis; boundary layers, and lift and drag on objects.
